Nils started his career as an engineer developing hardware, which gave him valuable mathematical and analytical skills, and also the ability and desire to deal with chaos. His work gave him the success he was looking for, but not the financial, time and geographic freedom he would have liked.
He resigned from salaried engineering employment in 1997 to start his private engineering consulting business winning contracts to invent and design custom silicon chips for clients in the USA and Canada.
Nils first started using options to hedge foreign income earnings to protect against exchange rate risk. After coming to understand the beauty, power and flexibility of options, he subsequently made the transition from using options for insurance to trading options for profit.
He finds trading opportunities by analysing capital flows between market sectors. He combines his keen understanding of global affairs with some plain common sense to determine how market fundamentals change.
Nils penetrates beneath the mainstream news, or “spin” as it is sometimes called, to assimilate international politics, strategic interests, and even strategic mistakes, to form opinions on international finance and how these combine to affect individual market sectors. His particularly keen interest in gold, resources, and energy, and their relationship to the US dollar, provide the cornerstone for his trading and investment decisions.
Nils joined Options21 in 2007, and has since contributed greatly to the content of our educational products, and continues to develop courses.
His communication skills and attitude underpin his ability to engage with people closely. He is highly motivated, energetic, focussed and committed. He is also an empathetic tutor and teacher, able to show how easy things are to teach and to understand.
Nils teaches what he does, and he does what he teaches. Action is congruent with teaching. He actively trades exchange traded options on the US and Australian markets. Where options are unavailable or illiquid, Nils trades underlying stocks. He also trades and invests over longer terms.
